September – December 2024
all the news from sabìr editore

Dear Colleagues,

the last part of the year brings with it some of the projects we care most about, and we are happy to share them with you. As always, we are at your disposal for any information or curiosity.

Picture books: LA MIA VOCE – My voice

A dreamy and poetic album about the sound of the voice, which tells about us and contains the love, surprises, fears, and stumbles of lived time

Everything moves in us and becomes sound. Not just words, but sound that vibrates and bursts like song into life. A game, a quirk, to be worn to go beyond a frame, hunting for adventures, without fear. Even starting from a book, as from a mirror to go through.
Giada Negri’s powerful illustrations (soon to become a permanent exhibition in the city of Antibes, Côte d’Azur) complement Mariagrazia Fiore’s rhymes, which suggest through the journey of the voice the search for one’s self and one’s place in the world.

Picture books:
QUELLO CHE CONTA – THE ONE WHO COUNTS

A visionary picture book, tinged with subtle irony,
an effective metaphor on the risks involved in delegating
‘what matters’ to others and the importance of
manifesting one’s uniqueness.

Written by Federica Ortolan and illustrated by Emanuele Benetti, it tells the story of life in SommoPoggio, a stylised and perfect world with certain boundaries, where what is important to all the inhabitants is proclaimed every day by The one who counts, the most powerful personality. But the daily routine is shattered by an unexpected event: The one who counts finds himself without a voice and the inhabitants find time and a way to think about what matters most… for each of them.

Picture books: nel bosco spaventevole – In the frightening forest

In this story nothing is as it seems and monsters do not stay in place… not even in dreams! A book about fear, curiosity, growth and … hearsay.

Mihaela Paraschivu’s illustrations and Rosalba Troiano’s text take readers to a village where people tell a lot of strange stories. Young Sbruf is not afraid of anything, indeed he dreams of exploring the forest behind the village, even though everyone tells him it is bewitched and very, very dangerous.

Picture Books: Nina

A beloved book in schools and much in demand in the field
of psychology. It returns in a new edition enriched by
the final monologue of the play Storia di Nina,
inspired by the book.

Do you know when you feel sad, and you don’t know why? That’s how Nina feels when she wakes up and finds a pile of Black Powder under her pillow. The little things that used to make her happy no longer seem to work. Nina starts to become sad. The truth, however, is that the Black Powder appeared precisely because Nina was already sad and there is no way to get rid of it except to accept even the most vulnerable part of herself and thus regain enchantment and wonder. Gradually Nina will begin to get to know the dusty creature and learn that true enchantment is such if it is shared. Nina inspired the play Nina’s Story, winner of the 2022 edition of the In-Box verde festival.

Novels: DELFO CANE FANTASMA – DELFO GHOST DOG

A story about loving and caring, about the desire for freedom, about death, about bonds, which sometimes block and imprison, and about that powerful engine that is the desire to grow and discover the world.

This novel is about Delfo, a friendly ghost dog guardian of a forest, and eleven-year-old Isabel, who loves to draw and sneak through the woods as soon as she can, and who will soon have to undergo heart surgery. Delfo and Isabel are destined to meet. Their friendship will open the door to the spirit world for the girl, help her face the operation with a renewed desire to live, and shed light on the mystery that has prevented Delfo from leaving the world of the living for many years.

GRAPHIC NOVELS:
I PIRATI DEL TEMPO – THE TIME PIRATES

A graphic novel written by Lorenzo Coltellacci (author of the hugely successful graphic novel Escher) and illustrated by Marco Valducci that dwells on the territories between tyranny and freedom, values and obligations, haste and contingencies, loneliness and point of view, wounds and new possibilities.

In Cronopoli everything revolves around time. Every second of its citizens’ lives is timed. Anyone who loiters or stops to ask ‘’Am I happy? ‘’ is arrested. Checking that everyone is obeying the rules is Detective Lancetta, aided by Assistant Detective Minuta. But there are also those who, at night and in secret, commit watch and holo-agenda robberies to help the inhabitants of Cronopolis take back their time: the pirate Barbarancio and his crew.

News from sabìr

The Hidden Life of Things by Marianna Balducci (with photographs by Fabio Gervasoni) was chosen for the exhibition Des photos – Des livres – Des enfants, Surexposition 5, scheduled from Sept. 18 to Oct. 30 at the Immix Galerie in Paris. The exhibition, curated by Laurence Le Guen, brings together some of the world’s most interesting photo-illustration artists. Given its great success, the exhibition has already been scheduled again for the coming weeks, this time in Nantes. The Hidden Life of Things is our first book, next July it will be, like us, five years old and we are very happy with the road it is taking.
